In 2006, 38 CFPNI teens were hosted by families in the Washington D.C. metro/northern Virginia area. The teens participated in a four part Leadership Program during their stay which consisted of: Team Building at George Mason's Hemlock Ropes, A Community Service Day, 'A Day on Capitol Hill' and a Cultural Diversity Day. The Leadership Program was made possilbe by the generosity of ECI Inc. and northern Virginia Host Families.

Teen Community Service Day
Capitol Hill
Leadership Program
The first Leadership Program Event was a day of team building at George Mason University's Hemlock Overlook Center for Outdoor Education where they participated in a ropes course. The Teens were challenged in a variety of ways, both individually and as a team. One of the more interesting parts of the course was the "peanut butter pit" where the teens had to work together to swing a blindfolded teammate across a mud pit via a rope dangling just beyond their reach.
Vienna Police Department
Officer Virginia Palmore, Vienna Police Department, met with several CFPNI teens to give them an overview of an American Police Department and to discuss responsibilities of a police officer. She delighted the teens with a tour of the local police academy and kept them entertained with her struggle to understand their Northern Ireland accents!
